In the Name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

“BISMILLAHIR-RAHMANIR-RAHIM”

The Qu’ran is Muslims holy book revealed from God (Allah SWT) to Muhammad (PBUH).

The word Qu’ran in Arabic literally means “recitation”.

The Holy Qu’ran is composed of 6,348 verses (ayats), divided in 114 chapters (suras), which are classified either as Meccan or Medinan depending upon the place and time of the revelation.

The Holy Qu’ran was revealed to Muhammad (PBUH) in stages, over a period of 23 years. Allah (SWT) has sent His final revelation (the Qur’an) to Muhammad (PBUH) through the angel Jibril (Gabriel) more than 1400 years ago (year 610 - Common Era).

The first verses of the Qur’an that was revealed to Muhammad (PBUH) was : “Read, in the Name of your Lord, who created, created man from a clinging clot (in the mother’s womb). Read and your lord is most generous. The One who taught man the use of the pen, taught man what he did not know before”.

The Qu’ran chapters and verses were recited and reviewed by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) together with the Angel Jibril once a year and only the last year twice. Millions of Muslims in the world memorize the Quran. The Muslim that has completely memorized the Qu’ran is called Hafiz that literally means “guardian”.

“O mankind, truly We have created you male and female, and have made you nations and tribes that ye may know one another. Truly the most noble of you, in the sight of God, is the most God-conscious”. (Qur’an 49:13)

The text of the Holy Qu’ran has not been changed over the past 1400 years.

Do the unbelievers not realize that the heaven and the earth used to be one solid mass that we exploded into existence? And from water we made all living things. Would they believe? (Qur’an 21:30)

Allah (SWT) guards the Holy Qur’an.

“We have without doubt sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption)”.  (Qur’an 15:9)

Alhamdulillah (Praise to God).
